Can I trim my Dogs nails myself?
And if so what do I need and how do I make sure I'm doing it correctly?

I trim my own dogs nails. I have always had staffies and they are strong and fight against it at first but when they do I challenge the behaviour so to teach them that once I start I wont give up and they learn this and let you do it. my dog just lays down and lets me get on with it. basically only cut the white tips dont cut down further as you will make it bleed or if you dont feel comfortable actually cutting them just use an emory board to file them.

I bought a nail file and so far so good. I'm less nervous and this makes her more relaxed. Thanks again great to get the advice..
I am a groomer for the last, well long time, it is quite easy to clip your dogs nails, if the nail are white, you can see the quick under the nail, there is a slight clear line over this, just cut below this in line with the pad and just off the ground, many dogs wear their nails down nautrally, but he dew claws have to be trimmed, Ask you groomer, I clip nails all the time for people who drop into the shop, it only takes 2 minutes.

I agree with Chris there, I don't feel confident enough cutting my dogs nails so use an emory board. They're so used to it now they fall asleep while I'm doing it!

Better using a pro who is trained and knows how to handle the dog.. Better for the dog I think and less stress for the owner/pet bond...
