Undecided Question
How to stop your dog barking at doggie passers-by when out walking?
Recently, while my boyfriend and I were away, Belle got a fright on one of her walks with her nanny.

They were walking to school to collect my boyfriend's litte sister when a dog came out of the driveway growling and barking visciously at her. They got away safely and she wasn't physically hurt, but ever since then she has been barking (excitedly & with fear)at other dogs passing by on walks. I feel she's trying to say 'just incase you're thinking of coming over here to get us....' She never barks at people on walks.

When Belle actually meets dogs face to face on walks, shes brilliant- very playful and affectionate. She also attends a doggie creche in town, which she loves. She gets on so well with all of the dogs there (which are big & small).

To combat the problem, we say 'no' when she starts barking at other dogs and if she is good and doesn't bark at other dogs passing by, she gets a little treat as a reward for good behaviour.

Belle is only 5.5 months... I really don't want her to get into bad habits for adulthood. I'd be grateful for any advice!!

the problem could be that your dog is stressed when encountering a new dog or person and doesn't know what to do. Some training which involves socialising with other dogs and people should reinforce calm behavior when meeting strangers. And, it just may help your problem. Dog Training Ireland are great, maybe check them out.
