Guinea pigs - how often to trim nails?
Anyone know how often it is advisable to trim our guinea pigs nails? Should we go to a Vet the first time to be shown how to do it correctly?
cheers!

hi

i trim their nails every 3 months.
if you happen to cut the vein in the nail called the QUICK.
there is a powder you can apply to stop the bleeding called QUIK STOP. check it out.

i went to the vet first time to see how they cut there nails just be sure to stay away from the nevre it can kill them i dont need to trim my guinea pigs nails that often because i put a concrete slab in there hutch as they can wear there nails down on it and it also cools them down when is hot

I would agree with all of that. Always nice to be shown how to do something the first time - makes it less scary for you and the guinea pig! It's also worth investing in a small nail clippers especially for pets. These are available from pet stores and your vets.
