Let the elderly keep their much loved pets!
Description:
Tomorrow Maggie mai begins her 'job' as a 'Pet Therapy dog', it was suggested to me that if i get a place in a sheltered accommodation that both my chihuahaus would have to sleep elsewhere and leave premises by 6pm. I am only 57.
No one, young, not so young nor elderly should have to part with very loved pets they have as companions for life.
it is wrong, it is cruel and its unfair.
Life is short, can be very hard for most. A lot of people can only relate to animals and as we get older it becomes a vital component in many lives, as a 57yr old, i sing, cry, laugh and chat to the chihuahuas. I worked for the elderly most of my life and theirs is not pretty.
Depression is common in the elderly, elder abuse is very high in Ireland too. This is a step too far to disengage them from furballs of any kind.

my chihuahuas in trouble! Maggie Mai is not doing good after course of antibiotics and may need anal glands out, I'm real worried about this op, please advise.
Ana has a small very soft swelling just above her spaying op, it looks and feels like a hernia, twin thinks so too. she does an awful cough like if something sticks in her gullet. she has done it since i got her and her xowner told me it was called something which i forget but reassured me its normal in chis, i never thought it even sounded normal!

Maggie Mai did BRILL at the social group for disabled elderly today! Some were blind and deaf, some were more outgoing than others. But all adored having wee maggie mai in their laps and stroking her, kissing her and loving her to bits.
they noted her soft fur, her toe nails, her long hairy tail and her big doe eyes.
they spoke of past pets and i am reading to them next week 'the velveteen rabbit' if i can find my copy!
Maggie will be there and will listen in, maybe on a womans lap that is not mine!!! I am thrilled to bits.
on return she ran to the hall door wanting to tell Ana Chi her doggie chihuahua pal all about it, then the two raced around the front like bunnies, and collapsed together on the sofa til tea time.
Ana didnt make the grade but both are loved equally! Maggie is not pea brained, she missed Ana badly and knew she wasnt close by, but she was a brave lassie, as so many have to be.

I agree, in fact our pets are both psychologically and physically healing and help reduce loneliness. In these circumstances no one should be separated from their pets.
