Worms in Cats and Dogs

Worms are internal parasites and many types infect dogs and cats

They occur in a variety of organs, including lungs, heart, blood vessels, kidney, eye, but mainly in the bowel. The most common worms are roundworms and tapeworm that live in the bowel. Although quite common, worms rarely cause serious disease. Infected pets are a source of infection to other pets and people. Almost all puppies are infected with roundworms from birth so it is important to treat them from a young age with an effective treatment.

All dogs and cats should be treated for worms with an effective treatment every 3 months from 6 months of age. Cats can be very difficult to give oral treatments, a complete worm treatment is available that can be applied directly onto the skin (not to be confused with certain brands of flea treatment which will kill two worm types but not a complete wormer).
