Chester the cat is protecting his remaining seven lives after being involved in two life-threatening incidents last week.

Chester was rushed to The Blue Cross animal hospital in Grimsby in the middle of the night after he was spotted at death’s door being dragged away by a fox. He was already in serious danger after being hit by a car and the scavenging hungry fox was about to seal his fate when a passer-by noticed and rushed him to the charity’s animal hospital on Nelson Street.

Chester had been missing from home for several days and his distressed owners feared the worst. Owner, Karen Traill from Grimsby said: ”It is such a relief to have Chester home, he is recovering well after his ordeal. We’re so grateful to The Blue Cross for saving his life and reuniting us. As he’s used up two of his nine lives I think we’ll keep him grounded for a while! We would also like to thank our neighbours and everyone who rallied round to help us try and find Chester when he went missing.”

Chester’s owners were traced by The Blue Cross because he was fitted with a microchip, a small identification device fitted between the shoulder blades of the animal.

Adams, Blue Cross chief vet said: “We immediately took action to stabilise the cat’s condition. He was unconscious and was bleeding from the head. He has been through a terrible ordeal and we were delighted that he has pulled through and safely back home. We urge all pet owners to get their pet microchipped so that they can be quickly returned to their owners if they become lost.”

The Blue Cross animal hospital is also caring for a ginger kitten who was found near Patrick Street, Grimsby, with a broken leg. Sadly, he isn’t fitted with a microchip so his owners could not be traced. If he remains unclaimed he will be transferred to one of the charity’s animal adoption centres to find a loving new home. He is a well cared for kitten, aged about 12 weeks old and was brought in wearing a black elasticated collar with a bell. On Sunday 13 June, The Blue Cross animal hospital in Grimsby is inviting pet owners to microchip their pets at a reduced rate of £5 per pet. Bring your pet to the hospital between 10.00am until 12.30pm and 2.00pm until 4.30pm.

The Blue Cross is one of Britain’s leading animal charities. It receives no government funding and relies on the generous support of animal lovers to continue its work. To find out more, or make a donation visit www.bluecross.org.uk.
