Horse Swept Away in Floods Survives
Written by Barbara Hanly on Monday, 28 June 2010During recent floodings in Oklahoma, three horses found themselves neck deep in water and close to death. Animal welfare and the fire department managed to rescue two of the horses but the third horse was swept the 25ft swollen creek. Officer Mike Sullivan said, " It was heartbreaking. All we could do was hope in God and pray the horse could catch it grip and swim to higher ground and get out of the water.
Well God must have been listening because Sullivan's prayers were answered. Check out the video report to hear ''Reg's'' story in full. Gotta love a happy ending!

Spot the Genius

For anyone who thought sign language was just for humans, this dog has proved otherwise. Deaf canine Spot will sit, stay and come at the command of his carers after learning to understand their signs. He even knows when he has been naughty or good. The Jack Russell cross was handed to the Blue Cross Southampton adoption centre six months ago when his owner discovered he was deaf. To read more click here and go to Blue Cross website.

Keeping parrots as pets is a relatively new phenomenon in Ireland, and as a result there are few resources for our feathered friends here. I started www.parrots.ie to try to address this shortfall, giving Irish Parrot owners and breeders a place to find all of the information they might need, from sourcing food and toys, to help with behavioural issues and a place to chat about their parrots. There is a forum on the site, which is the only dedicated parrot forum for Irish owners and breeders.

Rottweiler Becomes New Mommy To Abandoned Piglet
Written by King of Canine Gossip on Sunday, 18 October 2009Heidi Rhiann, a pig breeder from Wales was anguished when she witnessed her litter of 13 piglets dwindled to just seven. Apple sauce, the runt, was near death after being rejected from her mother. In an act of desperation, Heidi placed the rejected piglet in with her Dog Sasha who just had puppies.

Heidi goes on to say ''everyone started to panic, but "when we eventually got there to see, Sasha was suckling all puppies and piglet! Which is quite cute, isn't it? And she never looked back!" Apple sauce will now be kept as a family pet along with surrogate mom Sasha and siblings.
