Woman Throws Friendly Cat in Bin, Becomes Internet Villian

So you have all probably heard and seen of the video where a woman throws her neighbours cat in a wheelie bin which was then left there for 15 hours. Luckily Lola the cat was eventually found and is being well looked after by her owner.
Mary Bale has now become the target of world hatred and has even been issued with death threats. ''She should be thrown in a bin for 15 hours," one angry YouTube viewer wrote. "I'd throw her off a cliff," said another. She's been called a psychopath and a nut case, among other, less printable epithets.
The discussion is not about whether this is an act of cruelty but rather what should happen now. Should this woman be punished and if so how? The reality is that laws regarding animal cruelty are far too relaxed and maybe now is the time to push for better regulations and help reduce this problem once and for all. Do you think this Mary Bale should be legally punished and do you believe she has committed a crime?
