'Chanel' the long-haired white Daschund and the official 'World’s Oldest Dog' passed away peacefully in her sleep aged 21, or 147 in Dog years. Guinness World Records officials presented Chanel with a certificate as the world's oldest dog at a birthday party in Manhattan last May.

Owners Denise and Karl Shaughnessy told how they walked 'Chanel' everyday and how she loved Reese’s Buttercups, she once ate an entire bag! As shown in the photo, Chanel loved wearing her jumpers as she was sensitive to the old and enjoyed her comforts.

The Shaughnessy's gave a great amount of love, time and care to their aging pet, "It's just like caring for a grandparent or elderly parent," she said. "It's just a great deal of work. People should prepare themselves for if their pets live to be this old, that they are really going to have to devote a lot of time to them. “But if you love them, that's what you do. You don’t take them and have them put to sleep –- you let them live their lives, and help them do that as much as possible." Chanel had a long and happy life attributed not to health but to god, as Mrs Shaughnessy said "Dogs are God’s angels sent here to look out for us,"
